This list is a compilation of online learning resources that can be used in the classroom for teaching and personal learning experience. The following list has been reviewed using the Educational App Evaluation Rubric which can be viewed here. I chose these resources because I have used them in the past for work and school and I thought that they were effective resources.
Canva
This app is useful for making posters and other similar visual aids. With this app, the creator is able to effectively alter content to meet the student's needs. As well, the content can be shared with others for group viewing or editing. With this app, students are provided with limited feedback.
This app engages with a lower order thinking skills as many of the posters come as prepared templates the student can alter. This app is able to be linked to a Google account and can be launched independently with ease. This app would be used as school work and as directed by the teacher for a certain task.
Twitter
This app is very relevant and has a strong purpose for communicating and relaying information with other students. This app is limited with the flexibility to adjust the content of a student's needs. Once something has been "tweeted" it can not be edited. Students are provided with limited feedback when using this app. The app facilitates a higher order of thinking skills as students are limited in the number of characters used in a post. The use of hashtags and tagging other participants engages other dimensions of this resource. When using this app students are highly motivated to use the app due to its regularity. The performance of this app can be exported/shared with the teacher or audience but in some cases, a screenshot may be needed.
Instagram
This app has a strong focus on visual components and imagery. The purpose of this app is to share visual content and connect with others to view the images they share. This app allows flexibility to alter content through the use of digital editing tools(filters, contrast, brightness). Students are not provided with feedback when using this app. This app does use a mostly lower order of thinking although in analyzing images may sometime occur. This app can be launched independently and can be linked to other social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. Students are highly motivated to use this app due to its popularity. With using this app student product is available in app but exporting is limited and may require a screenshot.
Pinterest
This app is strongly focused on collecting data from sources and compiling it into categories that are "pinned". It has a strong connection for the purpose and is appropriate for students. this app is flexible to alter the settings but the student does not directly produce their own content rather gather information from others. The student is provided with limited feedback when using this app. This app does not encourage the use of higher order thinking skills but does include evaluating, analyzing and applying when using this app. Students may need a demonstration when using this app but the manoeuvrability is for the most part self-explanatory. Students use this app as direct by the teacher for the completion of work with slight interest and motivation. Student performance can be exported to the teacher or an audience by sharing the collections with the teacher.
Youtube
This app is video based and has a strong connection to the purpose and is appropriate for students when being used effectively. This app allows students to have the flexibility to alter settings although content once posted as a video must be taken down and re-uploaded, text can be edited. Feedback is provided for students and based on what the student is watching other related videos are recommended for the student. This app facilitates the use f mostly lower thinking skills like understanding and remembering although depending on the content evaluating and applying can be used as well. Students are highly motivated to use this app. Videos and playlists can be shared with the teacher easily and the product is saved.
